Well, it has almost been a month, and I am a little scared about weigh in day! I am not sure exactly how it is going to go. I feel I have been doing pretty well, not perfect, but I have definitely changed my outlook on food and exercise! I try to eat in moderation, and make good choices. Some of the staples in my diet have been: baby carrots, almonds, fruit, and cottage cheese. These are the things I eat almost daily as part of my small meals. But, I have also had everyday things such as chicken wings (grilled), sandwiches, and so on.
As far as working out, I have been doing quite well, actually I have made up my own hr long cardio workout, which has been kicking my ass. Just in case you want to know what it is:
I always stretch first!
I then start with 15 minutes on the elliptical going at a steady and quick pace, with the ramp at the lowest setting, ie no incline.
Then, for the next 15 minutes, I increase the elliptical incline to the maximum. This kicks the heart rate up, and feels like you are running up hill.
For the final 30 minutes on the elliptical, I grab 1 lb hand weights. Then, while running on the elliptical, I alternate jabs in the front of me for 2 minutes, and then just hold the weights in my hands for 3 minutes. This goes on for 6 rounds, 2 minutes using the weights, and 3 minutes not using the weights = 30 minutes. If ever I get really tired, instead of punching with every stride, I take it to every other stride. Either way, this kicks my heart rate way up. It is actually quite hard and tiring, but it works all kinds of muscles in my back, arms, stomach, shoulder, and of course my legs are also getting their asses kicked because I am constantly moving on the elliptical. Also, to break up the monotony I sometimes alternate my 2 min intervals between different punches I have learned in my kick-boxing class, such as hooks, upper cuts, crossovers and such. Either way, this workout is hard, makes me sore as hell, and definitely gives my heart a workout.
